Intense star formation in galaxies is often buried behind layers of dust, such as in the centers of galactic nuclei. In this workshop, astronomers form all across the world gathered in the tropical island of Ishigaki to discuss galactic nuclei, star formation and molecular gas from near to far redshift.
I was happy to be invited to this 6th version of this workshop and presented results on how I use a combination of the dust (as traced by emission from the JWST telescope) and dense molecular gas (as part of the SWAN survey) to constrain the physical conditions of the interstellar medium in the nearby galaxy M51.
